Nearsightedness has been a friend that drives me crazy, but I have learned to love it nonetheless. If I were living in the dark ages, I’d probably be the person in the bakery kneading bread for a living. Thankfully, we now have precision digitally etched lenses that normalize my vision and has made my passion for seeing the world around me possible. With my glasses off, I can only see about 4 inches away from my eyes, but I see that myopia has given me the gift of seeing objects up close with great clarity. Recently, I have delved into the world of macro photography, using focus stacking, a technique to achieve depth and detail beyond what is possible in a single image. I use the StackShot system from Cognisys, which allows me to photograph in much the same way an electron microscope, MRI, or CAT scan captures images. I capture 40 to 100 images from the front to the back of the object, and then I combine them electronically. The end results are crisp and beautiful images that look at a scene much the same way I see things without my glasses, with much detail and clarity!
